Have you completed your 2021 year-end review yet?🚀
Towards Honest Reflections🔮 & Mindful goal setting🎯
Hello there👋🏻
A very good Thursday to you! :)
🎀15 more days for 2021 to end. Have you done your year-end review yet?
✍🏻I've been doing this practice for the last 2 years now, with a diary & a pen to my rescue! Earlier today, I was going through some pages of the diary, to quickly notice a bias towards certain attributes of my life. The review was mostly filled with topics like Career, Academics, Projects & Internships.
🌱No mention of the friends I made, the calories I burnt, or the core values I nurtured. I'm glad to have come so far that I can foresee what I couldn't a year ago, The importance of balance in life!
🎯Just like we stress upon setting ambitious goals/ resolutions for the coming year. It's also crucial to mindfully review the past one. Incorporate all the elements that make up a balanced life.
🗣Make sure to have a Self-compassionate talk as you iterate over the entire year. Jot down the lessons learnt, the mistakes made.
🌠Up until now, I don't follow a strategy to reflect over the year passed. But I ensure to aggressively retrospect different verticals of my life that keeps me going.
📌Soundarya's insightful article on mindfully planning your goals with Air, Earth, Fire, and Water beautifully summarizes the importance of balance in life!
🌬Air represents wisdom. The element that gives you your sense of peace and brings clarity. e.g. reading books, meditating.
🔥Fire represents action and movement. The element that makes you feel productive, energized and keeps you moving. e.g. going to the gym, preparing for & giving a presentation.
🌍Earth represents structure. The element that makes you feel comfortable, restores structure in life and ensures stability. e.g. following a daily routine, taking rest & self-care.
💧Water represents emotion. The element that makes you feel connected to yourself and the community around you. e.g. talking to your loved ones, introspection, helping others.
Yesterday night after logging off from work, I attended a workshop again from Soundarya on setting resolutions that can translate into results. One of the key concepts that I took away from the workshop was the Life wheel.
The idea is to Sit down (with a pen & paper), pick an area of interest (let’s say health) and rate yourself where you stand on a scale of 10?
I rated myself a 4/10 for health. Also note down the reasons why you think you should deserve that rating. Mine are:
Not hitting the gym regularly
Having less to no control on my eating habits (especially the sugar intake)
Irregular sleeping patterns. Not sleeping 7-8 hrs every night on a regular basis.
..and so on. You get the idea, right? Now based on these observations you can even go ahead and set meaningful and measurable goals for 2022. Mine are:
Hitting the gym 5/7 days a week for at least an hour
Listening to one podcast every month on Health & Nutrition
Trying Adventure sports every 3 months
Notice the specificity of the goals? Make sure to be clear and make the goals as measurable as you can.
🌟Hope it helps you add more balance to your 2022
🚀Happy Reviewing towards a fabulous year :)
Cheers🥂
